Hurricane Irene barreled through here yesterday, and although we began to think that the television commentators were making a mountain out of a molehill, there really was quite a bit of damage around here. In Keene, we had wind and LOTS of rain–over 4 inches. In other parts of the state, trees were down, and there is significant flooding in parts of the state. Vermont is also affected, with flooding in Brattleboro, Bennington, Montpelier, Barre, and other places.
Now I HAVE to worry when the weather is like this– my older daughter lives near Montpelier, and her road crosses the Dog River. This will be the third time this year that it has flooded, leaving her either stuck at home, or unable to get there. The downtown part of Montpelier is also having problems, which is too bad, because it’s really a vibrant, interesting place.
SO, the Quechee festival went well, and now I have some new work to do. It is really fun to talk to people, which is what I did all day. They had a pretty good crowd considering the approaching storm, and the day seemed to go well.
