If you have a chance, you should click on the link above to D.C.Dalgliesh, and check out the video of how they weave the tartan. I have to say they wind the warp EXACTLY the way we do on the warping board we have for our hand looms. The only real difference between what my husband weaves and what Dalgliesh does is the fly shuttle. Also, it looks like they tie each new warp on to the old one, saving them the labor of pulling each thread through a heddle. Anyway, take a look, and find out just why it’s so very expensive to have a kilt length of tartan woven to order.
